关于广东油画的格局，美术史家谭天先生的一番言论可供参考：“……如果按邵大箴先生定的‘四阶段’来分期，‘19世纪末至1937年第一阶段’，广东的油画家艺术家有李铁夫、司徒乔、冯钢百、梁锡鸿等人;‘1938年至1949年第二阶段’，有余本、杨秋人、胡善余、胡一川、赵兽等人;‘1949年至1976年第三阶段’，有徐坚白、郭绍纲、尹国良、袁浩、冯玉祺、王恤珠等人;‘1976年至2000年第四阶段’，有汤小铭、邵增虎、杨尧、吴海鹰、林宏基、恽圻苍、鸥洋、雷坦等人，其中更年轻的有钟蔚帆、徐唯辛、郭润文、林永康、邓箭今、孙黎、何坚宁、包泽伟等人。”当然，谭天先生也坦言，这种分期只是为了看清广东油画发展的大致脉络。

　　然而我们之所以舍“广东油画”而取习惯上的“南方油画”这一说法，有两个方面的原因：首先是从更广阔的地域上来梳理与考虑，无论是从历史还是从当代来看，包括广东在内的南方油画界都活跃着为数不少的著名油画家。艺海堂美术馆立足于广东，但把目光投射在地域更广阔的大南方。其次，依据气候和地理环境因素来大体区分艺术家的性格与作品风格是被证明可行的。南方油画家多为人低调，国人对他们的认知度远不如同龄的北方油画家，而这并非是南方油画家之作品有失水准。面对这种局面，作为一家南方本土艺术机构，艺海堂美术馆没有理由不尽一份责任来为这些油画家做点力所能及的事情。呈现他们作品风格迥异但不逊于北方油画的独特一面，从而整体提升包括但不限于广东的这些南方名家之油画在国人心中的地位，这正是我们推出“南方油画名家系列”画册的初衷。

　　这本《南方油画名家——邵增虎风景油画集》正是践行这一初衷的成果之一。从油画的传承与发展来看，邵增虎先生可归于中国第三代油画家，他特立独行，其油画艺术承前启后，在南方乃至中国美术界享有德高望重的地位。无论是在人物画创作领域，还是风景画创作领域，邵增虎先生都取得了相当的成就，他独具个性的绘画艺术具有极高的学术价值和意义。

　　由于时间仓促，加上画册定位、篇幅和版面之限制，这本作品集仅挑选了邵增虎先生的部分风景油画作品，其诸多人物画代表作未能一一收录，是为憾事，期待再版时能得以弥补。在画册的编撰过程中，我们得到了邵增虎先生及家人、广东美术馆、雅昌艺术网、容城艺术馆等各方力量的鼎力支持与帮助，在此一并表示衷心感谢!

　　Art historian Tan Tian deemed that the history of Guangdong’s oil painting can be divided into four phases according Shao Dazhen’s concept: the first phase, from the end of 20th century to 1937, the representative oil painters of Guangdong province are Li Tiefu, Si Tuqiao, Feng Gangbai, and Liang Xihong, etc. the second phase, from 1938 to 1949, Yu Ben, Yang Qiuren, Hu Shanyu, Hu Yichuan, and Zhao Shou, etc. the third phase, from 1949 to 1976, Xu Jianbai, Guo Shaogang, Yin Guoliang, Yuan Hao, Feng Yuqi and Wang Xuzhu, etc. the fourth phase, from 1976 to 2000, Tang Xiaomin, Shao Zenghu, Yang Yao, Wu Haiying, Lin Hongji, Yun Qicang, Ou Yang, and Lei Tan, etc. the younger generation, Zhong Weifan, Xu Weixin, Guo Runwen, Lin Yongkang, Deng Jianjin, Sun Li, He Jianning and Bao Zewei, etc. Obviously, Mr. Tan Tian divided it into four phases only in order to acknowledge the general development of Guangdong’s oil painting.

　　However, we have adopted the concept "southern oil painting" instead of "Guangdong oil painting" for the two reasons. First, there are lots of famous oil painters in southern oil painting circle that includes Guangdong province whether in history or in today. Guangdong-based Yihaitang Art Museum aims to publicize oil painters and their works from a wider southern region. Second, it has been proved that it is reasonable for people to differentiate artists’ personality or works style according to climate or geographic environment. Southern painters usually keep a low profile and they belong to a relatively rational group, therefore, people know them relatively less than northern painters of same age even their works are not inferior to those northern painters. As a southern art institute, we feel duty-bound to do something for them. Therefore, it is our original intention to edit and publish selections of southern oil painters’ series, present their individual works compared to works by northern painters, and change their low profile among the beholders.

　　Famous Oil Painter in Southern China--- Landscape Oil Paintings by Shao Zenghu is the result of the program. From the inheritance and development of oil painting, Mr. Shao Zenghu who enjoys high prestige in China Art circle for his art inheriting the past and ushering in the future belongs to the third generation oil painter of China. Mr. Shao Zenghu has also made great achievement whether in figure painting or in landscape painting, so his individualized art has high academic value and significance.

　　We have only selected part of Mr. Shao’s landscape paintings for hasty time, established space of pages and our edit and writing ability. It’s a pity that his representative works have not been edited into the book. So we look forward to improving it next time. In the course of editing, we have to express thanks to Mr. Shao Zenghu and his family, Guangdong Museum of Art,  Artron group and Rongcheng Art Museum as well.
